Tables of delight for the Festive Season at Artspace (Rosebank) and Artspace Warehouse (Fairland)

Artspace gallery mounts their final show for 2009, Oppitafel IX: Babette's Feast, opening on the 5 & 6th December 2009.

Artspace has mounted its annual showcase, Oppitafel for the past eight years. Using "the table" as a point of departure this show has been an exciting group exhibition every year accommodating two and three dimensional works from a host of well known South African artists. This year's Oppitafel showcase takes "Babette's Feast" as a point of departure. Artists have been invited to curate tables of works by artists and designers as well as two and three dimensional works with over 50 artists participating in these two shows.

Dynamic programme offers new artists a foot in the door

On the 19th September, Artspace's Mentorship Programme for 2009 presents three exhibitions to the public. Launched in 2008, this Programme is the gallery's flagship initiative for nurturing new artists entering the market by providing them access to the support of established artists.

"In Arms" a solo exhibition by Dylan Graham at Artspace in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
27th August 2009

Dylan Graham presented his first major solo exhibition at Artspace gallery on 27th August 2009 at 18h00.
Entitled "In Arms" the exhibition is a collection of new paintings by the artists, rendered in oil on wood in Graham's distinctive voice.

Six Small Stories
29 July 2009

Six Small Stories is a group exhibition of contemporary jewellery design at Artspace. The show explores the narrative aspects of jewellery and miniature sculpture.

The exhibition features the well known designers Geraldine Fenn, Liz Loubser, Marchand van Tonder, all of whom have been visiting lecturers at the University of Stellenbosch. They will be exhibiting together with their former students Eric Loubser (BA FA) and Nanette Nell (MA), both recent graduates from the department, and current Masters Student De Villiers Venter. This exhibition provides an opportunity for the six artists to explore the medium of sculpture as well as jewellery, and extend the informal discussions they've been having around contemporary jewellery over the last couple of years.

The imagery of Preller's recent paintings originates from 8mm home movies filmed in the 1960s. The works are about suburban life in Montgomery Park and Langlaagte, Johannesburg. The artist, as a child, is fleetingly portrayed in some of the paintings, while others include family members and suburban features which are autobiographical yet become emblematic of a certain time and place

Walking the line

Walking the Line is a group show of respected contemporary South African artists focusing on drawing and printmaking at Artspace gallery, on the artstrip in Parkwood.

Philippa Levitt's JUSTICE. JUST ICE. JUST ICING.
1st April - 1st May 2009

Philippa Levitt's first solo exhibition this year, JUSTICE. JUST ICE. JUST ICING represents a key milestone for the artist. Coming to visual art after a career in law, this is the first time that any of Levitt's work has been shown on a public platform, and comes at an ideal time for Johannesburgers, as attention is focused strongly on the visual arts during the period of the second Johannesburg Art Fair.
