Constant Movement at Kievits Kroon Country Estate & Spa

Western Cape based artist JP Meyer’s solo exhibition, Constant Movement will be the second show at the Artspace satellite gallery at Kievits Kroon Country Estate & Spa.

Meyer’s exhibition is a compelling collection of works that use repetition and patterning techniques to draw the viewer into his contemplative space.
Meyer’s work is concerned with the enactment and the ritual of mark-making as an intrinsic human activity and a meaningful practice.  Although most of us write or draw on a daily basis in order to communicate, narrate, document or express ourselves, many cultures and traditions also use the process of mark-making, whether legible or abstract, as a means for investigation and contemplation.
Says Meyer “I am very interested in how repetition, cycles and movement create rhythms and patterns, not only in nature and the cosmos but also in human behaviour and mental processes.”
“In my experience the very act of seeing can facilitate an inner response that is often  more relevant than that of personal, social or cultural statements. What is important is that my work reflects my belief in the value of making art that embodies optimism, order and energy.”
Meyer was exposed to various forms of artmaking on the international circuit through his 15 years as a flight attendant.
“In the art galleries and Museums of Europe and the US, I noticed a previously unrecognized passion for Art and the creative process whilst the temples and spiritual traditions of Asia awakened in me discoveries of a different kind” says Meyer.

In 1996 Meyer resigned from SAA and became a full time art student. Graduating in 1999 with distinction, he has spent the past ten years making art and traveling to various parts of the world such as India, and Australia to explore traditional and spiritual practices, and learn about local art making traditions.

Constant Movement will run from the 25 October – 12 December in the Granita Restaurant and 41 Library Bar, at Kievits Kroon Country Estate & Spa.

Granita is open every day for lunch while dinner is served from Tuesday to Saturday. 41 Library Bar is open Monday to Sunday from 11:00 till late.
