Artspace lays it all out Oppitafel from 3 December 2008– 27 January 2009

On 3rd December 2008, Artspace gallery’s 8th annual flagship year end exhibition, Oppitafel opens.

The Oppitafel show has been an annual year end show for the past 7 years. The works presented have as their common thread, the theme, “Oppitafel”.

“The concept and object of the table, so central to our day to day lives both literally and figuratively, provide a platform for many interesting and innovative ideas. For the past seven years we have explored this theme through the works of miniature artists, jewellery artists, drawings, paintings and scultpures”, says Curator, Teresa Lizamore.

Past shows have included artists such as Karen Preller, Liz Loubser, Gordon Froud, Walter Oltmann and Diane Victor.

This year’s Oppitafel, sees the fusion of innovative lighting design with ceramic art work. In keeping with the needs of the season, this exhibition caters specifically to the festive season audience looking for unique gifts and ways to mark the year end.

Artists and designers on exhibition are Poorvi Bhana, Deon de Lange, Chris Diedericks, Muziwandile Gigaba, Eugene Honn, Loren Kaplan, Naomi Klingenberg, Karen Kotze, Andrew Lindsay, Simon Masilo, Andile Mdluli, Lynette Morris-Hale, Margo Rudolph, Sadia Salin, Anthony Shapiro, John Shirley, Karin Sinovich, Nic Sithole, Smelt Lamp Ware, Nikki Swanepoel, Twiice International, Margaret Woerman, Zizamele Artists 

Oppitafel will open on the 3 December 2008 at 18h00. Artist Wilma Cruise will be the opening speaker.

The show runs until the 24 January 2009, with the gallery closing for the festive season on 20 December and reopening on 13 January.

Artspace is open from 10h00-17h30 Tuesday – Friday, 10h00- 15h30 on Saturdays.
