Unnatural Selection Solo exhibition by Henning Lüdeke (See image catalogue)
Dissociation caused by Virtual Spaces are explored through Henning's "Unnatural Selection" show.
Within the context of consumerism, Lüdeke tries to find ways of transposing online commercial media into tangible, tactile spaces.
Through an "Unnatural Selection" of images from virtual shoe stores, he collages these into organic forms that resemble butterflies. During the first stage of this
evolutionary process, the digital prints remind us to re-integrate our online experiences with everyday life; we need to remain or become grounded again.
A second phase finds us interacting with these forms through an interactive digital projection - tangible, but still virtual. Currently , Lüdeke is considering transforming the two dimensional designs into autonomous flying sculptures.
Judith Mason has the following to say about his work, which featured on the cover of Capital Life magazine's July 2010 Issue:
"Henning's work is absolutely beautiful, and fascinating and delightful. I haven't been entertained so compellingly for ages!."
Based on Melkbosstrand, after graduating with a BA in Fine Art from Stellenbosch in 2006, Lüdeke spent 2 years at the Cape Town based Studio 2666 art collective.
Winner a Fleur du Cap award for best props made for Lara Foot-Newton's award winning Karoo Moose in 2008, the artist has crossed over into the theatrical.
